Introduction.

Some years ago I discovered a website dedicated to abandoned and little known airfields in the United States. Searching the web I discovered there is nothing like this about European airfields, although you would think that two World Wars and the Cold War would have left some mark on this continent.
As you have to start somewhere, I decided to build something similar about airfields in Europe, starting with the Netherlands and Belgium. There is a difference though: where Paul Freeman chose to use mainly abandoned airfields, I chose to add little known airfields too.
This is a work in progress and I do not in any way pretend to have the full picture. If you have any information available that might be of interest, do not hesitate to contact me.
Please ignore the column on the right. It is written in Dutch, explains what I've already told you, and then tells the reader we will continue in English only, because that's what we speak in aviation.

Inleiding.

Een paar jaar geleden ontdekte ik een website opgedragen aan verlaten en onbekende vliegvelden in de Verenigde Staten. Doorzoekend over het web ontdekte ik dat er niet zoiets is over Europese vliegvelden, alhoewel je na twee Wereldoorlogen en de Koude Oorlog toch wel wat zou kunnen terugvinden op ons continent. Aangezien je ergens moet beginnen, besloot ik om iets dergelijks te bouwen over vliegvelden in Europa, beginnend in Nederland en België. Er is wel een verschil: Waar Paul Freeman er vooral voor kiest om verlaten vliegvelden te gebruiken, heb ik er voor gekozen om ook niet zo bekende vliegvelden toe te voegen.
Dit is een nooit eindigend project, en ik wil niet beweren dat ik het complete plaatje kan schetsen. Als je informatie hebt die interessant kan zijn, aarzel dan niet om contact met me op te nemen.
Omdat de 'Lingua Franca' in de luchtvaart engels is, gaat de pagina vanaf hier verder in het engels.
